    Opportunity Description:

    TITLE: Research Technician
    JOB TYPE: Full time, seasonal
    LOCATION: Jackson, Wyoming
    JOB TERM: Until filled – end of October
    SALARY: $2,400/month

    JOB SUMMARY:
    Teton Science Schools is developing habitat models that predict pika occupancy in the southern Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Research Technicians will be responsible for deploying temperature loggers (iButtons), and conducting occupancy and habitat surveys throughout the Bridger-Teton National Forest in western Wyoming. Specific duties include detecting American pika presence through direct and indirect sign, conducting point-intersect vegetation transects, and entering and managing data in Excel and GIS. Overnight trips are required.

    Experience with plant identification, navigation, GPS/GIS, data entry and data management are required. Applicants should possess a BS in Botany, Wildlife Ecology, Ecology or related field, multiple seasons of technician experience and an ability to hike long hours in rugged terrain. Successful applicants will work with both project staff and local volunteers.

    Qualifications & Skills:
    • BS in Botany, Wildlife Ecology, Ecology or related field
    • Knowledge of plant identification in alpine communities
    • Ability to hike for 8-10 hours/ day in steep, rugged terrain
    • Demonstrated ability to navigate using aerial photos, topographical maps and GPS
    • Experience with GIS
    • Experience driving 4-wheel drive vehicles off-road
    • Experience working independently and as part of a field crew
    • WFA & CPR certification (required)
