Section members are welcome and encouraged to be involved with section committees. If you would like to volunteer, please contact the appropriate committee chair (see the Officers page).
Policy (Chair Chris Parsons)
The Policy committee seeks to engage membership in policy activities and develop policy statements on marine related issues on behalf of the Section and Section Board. The Chair acts as the liaison between the Marine Section with the SCB Policy Committee and identifies appropriate resource people within the SCB Marine Section Board to work with the Policy Committee as necessary.
Education (Chair Elise Granek)
This Committee will develop content on marine conservation issues for the SCB Education Committee. The Chair acts as the liaison between the Marine Section and the SCB Education Committee.
Funding and Development (Chair Phaedra Doukakis)
This Committee is responsible for raising funds for the Section’s priorities, including Section representation at SCB annual meetings, independent Marine Section meetings, international participation in the Board, and the Section operating budget. The Chair acts as the liaison between the Marine Section and the SCB Development Committee.
Student Matters (Chair Chris Parsons)
This committee will help to develop student chapters and encourage student participation in SCB and the Section. The chair will act as a liaison between the Section and the SCB Student Affairs committee.
Communications (Chair Amber Himes)
This Committee shall develop printed and electronic materials describing and promoting the Section, such as newsletters and web sites. This committee shall also work with other committees of both the Section and SCB to achieve the outreach and marketing goals.
Conference (Chair Anne Solomon)
This Committee shall organize and promote marine content in the SCB annual meeting, develop the program and activities schedule for the Section at annual meetings and outreach events that promote membership in the marine section. The committee will participate in the process of selecting where the annual meetings will be held and provide guidance to the local organizing committee of each annual meeting. The Chair acts as a liaison between the Section and the SCB Conference Committee.
Publications (Chair Ellen Hines)
This committee will work with the SCB on marine content within SCB publications. The chair of this Committee acts as a liaison between the Section and the SCB Publications Committee.
Awards (Chair Carolyn Lundquist)
This Committee helps to generate a diverse set of nominations from around the world for the awards presented at the SCB annual meetings. In addition, Committee members help to define the policies and procedures for the awards process. The chair of this Committee will act as liaison between the committee and the SCB Awards Committee.
Volunteer
This committee will coordinate Section members interested in volunteering in Section activities (e.g., newsletter, marine social, student chapters, planning and Section events). |
