Funding Available
The Rufford Small Grants Foundation offers grants up to £5000 to individuals for grassroots nature conservation projects. The Foundation also recently launched the new Innovation Grant, which is aimed at giving up to £50,000 for a creative and innovative project. Graduate Training
Exceptional students interested in interdisciplinary and international environmental study are invited to apply for a Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) Ph.D. Traineeship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. These traineeships, supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation, have a generous stipend, tuition waver, and health benefits. Meeting the major challenges of conserving biological diversity sustainable development requires understanding the interactions among biological, physical, social, and economic forces. IGERT trainees will address these issues by pursuing a Ph.D. in one of more than a dozen departments and participating in IGERT seminars, workshops, language training, and field research in the Himalayas of Yunnan, China. The conference Ingestion of Spent Lead Ammunition: Implications for Wildlife and Humans will be convened by The Peregrine Fund from 12-15 May 2008 at Boise State University, Boise, Idaho. The goal of the conference is to promote a better understanding of ingested spent lead ammunition as a source of lead exposure and to reduce its effects on wildlife and humans.
