NEW ELECTRONIC OPTIONS: ELECTION BALLOTS AND SCB NEWSLETTER

Each November, SCB members have the opportunity to vote for new members of the Board of Governors. As SCB continues to pursue new initiatives and matures as a society, voting is one of the most meaningful ways for members to influence SCB's activities. This year, four positions will be open: Secretary, Local Chapter representative, Humanities representative, and Member-at-Large.

Although the SCB membership survey conducted in September 2000 indicated that many members are interested in the elections, voter turnout often has been low. Starting this year, in order to make the voting process more "user-friendly," you will have the option of voting by paper (using the ballot printed in this newsletter) or voting online via SCB's web site. Complete details will accompany the candidates' statements and ballot in the November 2001 newsletter.

If you have provided SCB with your email address, you also will receive a reminder that the election is in process and the ballot is available online. A password system will ensure that only SCB members can vote and that each member casts only one ballot. Regardless of the method you use to vote, please make your voice heard!

Currently, a print copy of SCB's quarterly newsletter is mailed to all members. In response to member requests to reduce paper use and to explore faster delivery options, when you renew your membership for 2002, you may elect to receive the newsletter electronically. You also will have the option of continuing to receive the print copy. More details will appear in the November 2001 newsletter. The newsletter will continue to be posted online on SCB's web site, usually by the first week of the issue month.

Ideas and contributions to the newsletter are welcome. Please send your thoughts to the Editor.
