INTERESTED IN AFRICAN CONSERVATION? SCB AND AAAS JOIN FORCES

In our continuing effort to assess the opportunities for making SCB a more international organization, we will be turning next to Africa. For this endeavor we have a new partner, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Late last year, the Africa Program of the AAAS contacted SCB seeking our collaboration in developing, with African partners, an initiative to improve information access and exchange within the conservation biology community in Africa, as well as with colleagues elsewhere. To inform this initiative and ensure that it is driven by stakeholder needs and conditions, SCB and AAAS are undertaking a survey patterned after earlier surveys of SCB members in Latin America and Europe, along with some additional questions about information networking. This survey will be sent directly, by email, FAX, and/or post, to members who have African addresses in our membership database. We also invite all members with a significant, active interest in African conservation to participate in this survey. In particular, we hope to add input from Africans who are living outside of Africa and non-Africans who are involved in African conservation. To obtain a copy of the survey please contact Alan Bornbusch per the information below; email is preferable. If you have an African address in our database you should receive a survey directly, but to assure your participation feel free to request a copy now. Completing the survey should take no more than 15 minutes of your valuable time, but your input will immeasurably strengthen steps towards improved networking for the African conservation biology community.
