The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a 7% tax charged for most goods and services sold or provided in Canada. If you are a visitor to Canada, save your receipts and submit the proper forms, and you will be able to obtain a refund of the GST. GST rebate forms and information brochures will be available at the conference registration desk. Provincial sales tax (PST 7%) is applicable on most retail sales. The PST is not refundable.

Temperatures in May and June average 16 - 19 degrees Centigrade (61 - 67û F). In recent years, we've had wet weather during June. To be prepared, bring along light rain gear and layered clothing.

At the time of printing the toll-free telephone number for the Child Daycare Information Service is not available. This service is mandated by the regional licensing authority to maintain records of private caregivers who provide daycare services in their own homes. All are licensed daycare operations. The Information Service staff will discuss your personal caregiving needs and refer you to appropriate caregivers. There is no available childcare service on campus for children accompanying delegates to the conference. Please contact Conference Management for the Child Daycare Information Service toll-free number.

Delegates are invited to take advantage of the athletic/recreational facilities on campus: swimming, weights, outdoor tennis, racquetball, squash, or any drop-in activities as scheduled. Raquets are available for rent. Day pass is $3.75CDN per person. Proof of conference attendance is required (e.g. conference or housing registration receipts). Chip trails surround UVic and are excellent for walking and jogging - an exercise companion is advisable. Within walking distance is a sandy beach and playground for children.

All campus guests are required to purchase a daily parking permit to park daytime during the week. Parking is restricted to the lots located outside the Ring Road (parking in the lots inside the Ring is restricted to staff). After 6:00 P.M. and on weekends, parking is free in all lots except Lot B, Elliott Building (inside Ring Road) and the University Centre Building underground lot. The $4CDN daily parking permits can be purchased at the Housing Office or at parking meters located off to the right just after you enter the university grounds (see campus map provided). You will need exact coin change or a credit card, depending upon the machine. If you have a Handicapped Parking permit/sticker/designation, please bring this with you to use in the designated parking spaces on campus. If you are unable to bring this permit, please indicate on your registration form in K31.
