In an effort to provide Society membership benefits to developing country scientists and practitioners, SCB has a sponsored membership program. Anyone may register for sponsorship on the SCB website if they 1) are either a resident in low-income (those NOT on this list of high-income countries as defined by the World Bank), developing country and 2) have at least email access. Institutions seeking sponsorship should contact the Executive Office.
Please note: Sponsors may support specific individuals (for whom they have contact information) by logging into the website and selecting "Sponsor a Member."
Potential sponsored members should register for sponsorship on the SCB website or request an application from the Executive Office by email.
In addition to providing your contact information, you must provide the following documentation via fax, mail, or email attachment:
Sponsorship priority is first-come, first-served. SCB reserves the right to filter sponsorship requests that we feel are inappropriate for some reason (e.g., a person working in Africa on a US salary). Potential sponsors will not be able to see your name, but will be able to see your country of residence.
Please note the following stipulations for sponsored membership:
Base sponsorship is 40 USD per year per sponsored person. Potential sponsors should communicate with the Executive Office regarding the composition of the pool of potential sponsored members. You may choose to support either a specific individual or the first in the queue in either of the following categories: (a) a student in a developing country, (b) a professional in a developing country.
We appreciate any and all support you can offer, but we encourage you to make a multi-year commitment as students may only need support for a discrete time period, but members from developing countries may need support indefinitely. Each year we have more requests than we can meet.
