WHY BECOME A MEMBER OF SCB ?

Join SCB here.

SCB began in 1985 with the hope of applying more conservation to the traditional biological sciences. Since then, the field of Conservation Biology has grown considerably, as has Society membership. SCB now boasts a membership of more than 10,000 in 128 countries (28 March 2006). This global community of conservation professionals is the foundation of the Society for Conservation Biology. SCB offers many benefits to members...

  • Special Benefits for Members in Developing Countries - Beginning in August 2006, SCB now offers free online access to SCB members in good standing in developing countries for the following publications: Conservation Biology, Conservation and Biological Conservation. This option will be expanded to additional publications as they become available. We hope that this will greatly benefit our colleagues in areas where the price of these valuable publications is restrictive. Thank you to our partners - Elsevier Publishing, Blackwell Publishing and The Nature Conservancy - for making this possible. Click here (opens in a new window) to see a list of developing countries--if your country is on the list you can access this unique benefit!

  • Publications - SCB offers our publications to members only. These publications such as Conservation Biology and Conservation offer pertinent conservation science to readers. SCB also offers affiliates publications to members, often at discounted rates! The SCB Newsletter is free to all members.

  • Global Community - SCB offers members many outlets for communication with members globally. Members can join Regional Sections and Working Groups, participate in committees and access their conservation colleagues through our Membership Expertise Database.

  • Voting - Members can vote in SCB Board of Governors elections to help determine the future direction of the Society. Only members can vote for Regional Section Boards as well.

  • Discounts for SCB Global Meetings - SCB Meetings are excellent opportunities to learn about current conservation projects and meet new colleagues around the world. Members receive discount opportunities for these meetings.

  • Jobs - Our job board postings are accessible to members only during the first 48 hours after posting, giving our members a head start on job opportunities.

  • Other Benefits - Members are offered other unique benefits as they arise such as discounts on new books or with other organizations. These offers will appear to members when they are logged in, and as the opportunities come available.
