Terms of Reference

Updated: June 1, 2006

The Student Affairs Committee shall promote a supportive environment for undergraduate and graduate students in SCB.

The Student Affairs committee shall:
  • facilitate coordination of student affairs among Sections,
  • encourage student participation in meetings,
  • create opportunities for interaction among students and professionals, and
  • administer the Student Awards Program and Best Student Paper.

Student Awards

Student awards are given out during the Society for Conservation Biology Annual Meetings. Specific information and deadlines can be found on the upcoming Annual Meeting web page.

In general, any student presenting a paper at the meeting can be considered for an award. During the call for papers, interested students are asked to submit 2 copies of their abstract. A group of papers are selected by a panel prior to the meeting and these students present in special groups during the meeting. After the papers are presented student award winners are chosen and awards are given out at a ceremony held during the Annual Meeting.
